#47. How to "buy" a politician and get away with it.
Nov 03, 2020 Season 1 Episode 47
Aaron Agte and Trishul Patel

In this episode, Aaron and Trishul discuss the incentives that influence politicians. Naturally, this means addressing campaign finance reform. If a politician's primary goal is to get re-elected, he or she may focus on fundraising and nudge-nudge-wink-wink quid pro quos with large donors rather than working to improve constituent well-being. Aaron and Trishul look at the history of campaign finance laws, including Citizens United. And so they try to find the balance between free speech and allowing PACs to spend unlimited amounts of money. They then discuss a few ideas for improvement, including Voting With Dollars, anonymizing donations, and the CFR28 Logic Puzzle.
