Your employer can grant access you any combination of these plans. So then, how do you decide when to exercise and when to sell? You can choose to hold on to everything for the upside. Or you can sell everything as soon as possible to lock in your benefits. But most people end up somewhere in the middle, and that's where things get complicated.
